Superintendent – Sacramento – Grocery Store/Gas Station Experience

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Superintendent to oversee and manage the construction of grocery stores and gas stations in the Sacramento area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial construction, specifically in managing the unique challenges and requirements associated with grocery stores and gas stations. The Superintendent will be responsible for coordinating all on-site activities, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget, while meeting the company’s quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight:
    • Manage and supervise all on-site construction activities for grocery store and gas station projects, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
    • Coordinate and schedule subcontractors, suppliers, and site staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely project completion.
    • Conduct daily site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and manage on-site construction teams, including assistant superintendents, foremen, and laborers.
    • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and high standards of workmanship.
    • Provide clear direction and communicate project expectations to all team members.
  • Quality Control:
    • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure the highest standards of construction, particularly focusing on the specific needs of grocery stores and gas stations, such as refrigeration systems, fuel dispensing equipment, and safety protocols.
    • Review and approve work performed by subcontractors and site staff, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
    • Address any issues or deficiencies promptly to maintain project quality.
  • Safety Management:
    • Enforce all safety protocols and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, with particular attention to the safety requirements of gas stations and grocery store environments.
    • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions for site staff and subcontractors.
    • Investigate and report any safety incidents or accidents, ensuring corrective actions are taken.
  • Client and Stakeholder Communication:
    • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients, project managers, and other stakeholders.
    • Provide regular updates on project progress, addressing any concerns or changes in scope.
    • Coordinate with project managers to ensure alignment with project goals and client expectations.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including daily logs, progress reports, and inspection records.
    • Report project status, issues, and progress to the project management team and senior management.
    • Assist in the preparation of project closeout documents and punch lists.
  • Problem Solving and Decision Making:
    • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues, particularly those specific to the construction of grocery stores and gas stations.
    • Make informed decisions to resolve conflicts and overcome challenges, ensuring successful project delivery.
    • Drive continuous improvement and implement innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience as a superintendent, with specific experience in the construction of grocery stores and gas stations.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction processes, methods, and best practices for grocery store and gas station projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety regulations and standards, particularly in environments with fuel storage and handling.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Buildertrend, PlanGrid).
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in Sacramento, CA.
